BILLY DON SIMS 2016 SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO JESSICA A. WILLIAMS

Jessica A. Williams was awarded the 2016 BDS Scholarship during the AER Alabama Chapter Annual Conference. This year's scholarship was in the amount of $2,500.

Jessica became blind eight years ago. She thought her chances of returning to college were nonexistent however she now leads a full life in spite of blindness. Jessica stated that she feels AER’s mission to “support professionals who provide education and rehabilitation services to persons with visual impairments” closely aligns with her personal mission. “My mission is simple - I want to make a difference in the world for those who are blind and visually impaired so they may feel empowered and successful.” As the National Federation of the Blind states in the NFB motto, “blindness is not a characteristic that defines you or your future.” I hope to embody the missions of AER and NFB every day by raising the expectations of blind people so we can all live the life we want."

Congratulations! – Jessica Williams
